Can Mert Kökerer is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the historical manifestations and theoretical underpinnings of democracy, popular politics, and participatory institutions. He is currently completing his dissertation on the legitimate bases of participatory government in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1630-1691.
