My research analyzes the underlying causes of socio-ecological degradation. Using historical sociological methods, I examine the state as an agent of social and environmental transformation through the lens of energy policy. In my dissertation, I ask how and why energy emerged as an object of American state strategy in the 20th century, with attention to the social, economic, geopolitical, and environmental consequences of state intervention.
