Nathaniel Gonzalez is a PhD Candidate in Sociology. His interests include political sociology, race and ethnicity studies, sociology of religion, and the sociology of violence. Nathaniel's dissertation uses ethnographic and interview evidence from two cities in central Myanmar to analyze the way in which communities respond when communal violence seems imminent. Specifically, the dissertation looks at how the local distribution of power affects the community's response to potential violence, and how this affects the form and likelihood of violence.
