Nathaniel is a PhD Candidate in the Sociology department with a focus on race/ethnicity studies and political sociology. His research investigates the role of politics, community organizations, and resident mobilization on the form and likelihood of communal violence. His dissertation focused on Myanmar, where he studied how communities in Yangon and Mandalay worked together to prevent Buddhist-Muslim violence.
