My research interest includes sociology of local finance, cultural and ideological change, and computational methods, with a focus on the topic of substitution and transformation. One main project I am currently doing aims to understand the relationship between local finance and local economy in rural and county areas of China during the reform period. I am also studying the market creation and ideological transformation and in China using text data and machine learning methods (collaborated with Shilin Jia). Another project of mine (collaborated with Lingfei Wu and James Allen Evans) employs neural embedding models to understand the relationship between social connections and cultural contractions.
